Latitude: Lakeside Stage

So onto the BBC Introducing stage at the lakeside, curated by Huw Stephens of BBC Radio1.

Kabeedie Crowd

This stage featured the best acts out of thousands nationwide from the BBC’s Introducing series. Last year it offered up groups such as Scouting For Girls - who have gone on to have a number one album - and Blood Red Shoes. This year, the stage firmly belonged to The Kabeedies, who had already been championed by Stephens as his favourite act of the Glastonbury Introducing stage.

I dont think anyone could of envisioned the crowd reaction as they took to the stage Saturday at tea time. The crowd had swelled to over 500 in anticipation of the performance. They totally ripped through the first three numbers with an ever-growing audience including crowd surfers. As the barriers started to move forward the security called for reinforcements. The rapport these indie-popsters have with the crowd is fantastic. I adore them as a live act. For me they were head-and-shoulders above anyone else as a stand out act on the lake.

Rod Thomas

On Sunday, I was really taken by the stagecraft of up-and-coming Welsh singer/songwriter Rod Thomas, who used clever loops to make a rich tapestry of sound.

What a great performance by The Kabeedies. They are getting better and better. Their new song, which was performed for the first time at Latitude sounded like a new passage for the band. The voices all harmonising and even the Drummer getting a look in with a little shout of “Hey” as the beat gets catchier and stronger.
4 Smiling faces left the stage to a rapturous reception, I even saw a crowd of boys wanting to get Katie
